"Mmm," said Pigaroo. He snored on and on, right through breakfast
and lunch. He didn't even move, until the sun grew so hot that he dug
himself into the mud and snored some more. Late in the afternoon Pigaroo woke up, stretching and yawning until he was wide awake. He looked around for Mama. Where was she? "Oh, now I remember!" he cried. "Mama went to the dump. I stayed up all night and now I've missed a picnic. What good is knowing how many stars there are? I'd rather have gone with Mama. I bet she even found some oatmeal raisin cookie crumbs for dessert." Oatmeal raisin cookie crumbs were Pigaroo's favorite, and it made him very sad to think that he wouldn't have any. Then Pigaroo thought of something. "Maybe I can still catch up with Mama." He ran to the pigsty gate but stopped when he saw his mother walking slowly down the path from the dump. Pigaroo felt very much like crying. |
